Senior Associate – Litigation & Dispute Resolution

About the role

We are looking for a professional, highly motivated and knowledgeable Senior Associate with solid, demonstrated experience in general commercial litigation matters. Experience in insolvency and/or building disputes will be an advantage.

Led by an experienced general commercial litigator with a focus on engagement, collaboration and teamwork, this is a busy practice area, with a strong base of existing clients, meaning your ability to relate well with clients is crucial. You will work closely with the team’s Principal Lawyer, Special Counsel and Senior Associate to provide coaching and guidance to Lawyers within the team.

You will support the team’s business development plan through targeted presentations, article or website content and other events as required from time to time.

You will provide tailored advice on complex matters to a variety of clients with a broad range of interesting and exciting work.

You will be organised, motivated and confident working autonomously and as part of a close team, with excellent attention to detail and a focus on responding to requests in a timely manner.

We are looking for someone who is able to work full time, or part time which may include working across five days with reduced hours or a compressed working week and would ideally be based either in our Melbourne or Geelong office with flexibility to work across offices and from home.

You will need:

  • Minimum of five years post-admission experience in Commercial Litigation
  • Proven experience practising in a team environment
  • Proven ability to provide an excellent quality of work
  • A proven ability to problem solve and improve processes
  • Efficient time management to maintain control of key priorities
  • Ability to develop referrers and engage in business development (including presentations to current and potential clients)
  • Coaching, mentoring and leadership skills

You will bring:

  • The provision of technically and commercially sound advice relating to general commercial litigation work, including contract, insolvency, property, trust disputes and partnership/shareholder disputes
  • Solid, demonstrated experience with insolvency and/or building disputes an advantage
  • Demonstrated ability and confidence in advocacy and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, proactive and flexible attitude
