You are studying law and you want to learn more about what a career in law actually looks like.

You may not have had much legal experience but you know your goals: gain experience, make connections in the legal community and learn about life at a top regionally based law firm.

At Coulter Legal, we want the same things. We want to build connections with law students from the start of their studies, to identify those with the potential to build careers at our firm and to help support the development of young lawyers across the profession.

Our Create with Coulter Legal program is designed for second or third year law students at Deakin Waterfront campus. Students in this program will spend four days (Tuesday to Friday) at our firm, shadowing lawyers across all of our teams.

You will attend court appearances, client meetings and mediations, meet lawyers at all different stages of their careers, engage with clients, referrers and other third parties, and learn about day to day life at Coulter Legal. We are looking for students who are passionate and excited about developing a career in law, and are connected with the local community.

We want to see these things shine through in your application. If you are passionate about developing your career in the law and want an opportunity to learn more about a professional firm, this program is for you.

Application Process

There is a two-step application process. As part of the first step of the application process you will be required to provide us with your contact details and upload a copy of your academic transcript and resume.

We are partnering with DeakinTalent to increase exposure for students to video interviewing technology. As part of step two of the application process, all applicants will receive a link to complete a video introduction. This will require you to record a short video of yourself answering three questions about your interest in Coulter Legal, your interest in the law and your community engagement.

We will shortlist a number of students based on applications and video introductions. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a networking evening at our firm, where you will have the chance to meet lawyers and hear more about Coulter Legal and the Create with Coulter Legal Program. From the shortlist, four students will be chosen to undertake the program each year.

Satbir was a tremendous support and offered sound advice throughout my separation process. He quickly understood my situation from the very start and was always patient and reassuring when it mattered. Importantly he delivered the result I wanted.
